How should you read Australian job cuts announcements?
A proposed reduction is not a completed departure. “Roles affected” can include redeployment, and a full-time equivalent (FTE) is not the same as one employee. A group announcement may cover more than Australia. We retain the employer’s unit and scope rather than converting it into a national jobs-lost total.
The table covers primary announcements and outcome reports published from 29 April to 29 October 2026. Later confirmations are labelled separately from first announcements. It is a selected record, not a census of Australian redundancies. An employer missing from it does not mean there have been no job cuts.
Public-service rounds remain in our APS and ACT Government redundancy tracker. Universities are checked separately because they are not necessarily private-sector employers.

What has NAB announced about redundancies?
NAB’s October announcement is a proposed workforce reduction. Its end-of-2026 target sits inside the FY27 figure in the table; the two must not be added. NAB also plans to reduce consultants and external contractors, without a number in that release.
NAB says its FY26 results on 5 November 2026 will provide further FY27 cost-outlook detail. That is the next scheduled source check for this row, not a promise of new redundancy figures. Read NAB’s announcement.
What has KPMG announced about redundancies?
KPMG’s August release describes a planned reduction, concentrated in Consulting and Business Services. It distinguishes partners from employees and identifies consultation for some award-based roles. It does not establish that every proposed departure has occurred or allocate the roles to Canberra. Read KPMG’s announcement.
Are ANZ redundancies a new 2026 announcement?
The widely cited ANZ program was announced on 9 September 2025: approximately 3,500 employees were expected to leave the Group by September 2026, with around 1,000 managed-services contractors affected separately. The original release is outside this table’s six-month window. A 2026 departure deadline does not turn it into a new 2026 announcement, and the Group figure is not an Australia-only total.
What does a redundancy payment usually include?
A final payment can contain several parts: wages still owing, unused annual leave, applicable long-service leave, payment instead of notice, and redundancy pay where the employee is entitled to it. The amount depends on the applicable employment rules and circumstances; another employer’s package is not a reliable guide to yours.
Redundancy pay is not automatic for every worker. Eligibility and exceptions matter, including service length and small-business rules. Check the applicable award, enterprise agreement and contract against Fair Work’s redundancy-pay guidance and its final-pay guidance. A payroll breakdown helps distinguish the employment entitlement from its tax treatment.
How does genuine redundancy tax work?
A payment may qualify for genuine-redundancy tax treatment when the job is abolished and the employee is dismissed, subject to the eligibility conditions, including being under Age Pension age on the dismissal date. The label on an employer’s announcement is not enough to establish a person’s tax treatment.
The qualifying component is tax-free up to an indexed limit based on a base amount plus completed years of service. Amounts above that limit are treated as an employment termination payment (ETP), subject to the applicable tax rules and caps. Unpaid wages and unused annual or long-service leave are separate; they do not share the genuine-redundancy tax-free limit.
See the ATO’s genuine-redundancy guidance. Ask payroll or your tax adviser to confirm the classification, payment year and withholding for your own payment. Our redundancy payment and super guide covers related questions.
If you've received a redundancy notice, what are the first steps?
These are general first steps, not advice about your situation.
- Check where the process is up to. Awards and agreements require consultation about major workplace changes, including written information about the expected effects. Fair Work says a dismissal is not a genuine redundancy if the employer could reasonably have offered another job in the business or an associated entity. See Fair Work on redundancy.
- Check what your final pay should include. Wages owing and unused annual leave, plus payment in lieu of notice, redundancy pay and long service leave where they apply. Most awards require final pay within 7 days after the last day of employment. See Fair Work on final pay.
- Ask payroll how the payment will be reported. Unpaid wages and unused leave are not part of a genuine redundancy payment, and any amount over the tax-free limit is part of an employment termination payment. See the ATO’s genuine-redundancy guidance.
- Check Centrelink support early. Moneysmart suggests checking whether you can get Centrelink payments while you look for work; Services Australia sometimes requires your employer to complete an Employment Separation Certificate.
- Talk to lenders before repayments slip. Lenders have hardship teams, and you can ask for a financial hardship arrangement. See Moneysmart on losing your job.
- Map your budget before deciding what to do with the payout. List your regular costs and the money you have available, then get advice that considers your whole position.
How can Maciej or Imran help?
Facing a redundancy proposal or weighing an offer? Maciej Stanek or Imran Amjad at Véurr can discuss your financial position and what the payment needs to support next. Payroll or your tax adviser confirms the tax calculation; employment-rights questions belong with Fair Work, your union or an employment lawyer.
Where do the figures come from, and when are they checked?
Each row links to an employer release, an ASX announcement or a statutory liquidator report. Sources are dated beside the figures. New evidence can change a proposal’s status; an elapsed deadline alone cannot.
When adding an outcome, we retain the original announcement date. We do not add overlapping rounds, partner and employee counts, group and Australian figures, or proposed and completed reductions into one total. “Not disclosed” means the cited source does not supply that detail.
